The Uxío Novoneyra Foundation is hosting the IX Edition of the Festival dos Eidos from August 23rd to 25th.

The program includes three days of activities focused on poetry and the arts at the Uxío Novoneyra House-Museum in Parada do Courel.

The Festival dos Eidos celebrates its IX edition with poets Luz Pichel, André Tecedeiro, Brenda Alborada, and Isaac Xubín, who will be the main performers at the recital on Saturday, August 24th, in the courtyard of the poet’s house-museum in Courel. On Friday, August 23rd, Xabier Cordal will join Antón Reixa for the presentation of the poetic anthology *Enciclopedia Perplexidade* (Faktoría K, 2024). On Saturday morning, Antón Lopo and María Sánchez will present their poetry collections *Diarios 1/ Azul Monforte* (Noudelo e Ribón, 2023) and *Fuego la sed* (La Bella Varsovia, 2024) in a conversation at Souto da Rubial. On Sunday morning, August 25th, Nieves Neira will present the new edition by Chan da Pólvora of the book that gives the festival its name, *Os Eidos. Libro do Courel*, the core of Novoneyra’s work and the reason why hundreds of people return to the place where Novoneyra wrote the book that transformed Courel into a literary territory.

The program will open on Friday at 5 PM with an exhibition of the painting series “Romance de Manuel de Ribadaira” by Nicolás González Aller, inspired by the romance that Uxío Novoneyra dedicated to Federico García Lorca and a local resident, Manuel de Ribadaira, who was executed at the age of 21 in 1936.

Music will continue to enrich the festival space with concerts and performances by Familia Caamagno, the group Dúbida, O´Leo de Matamá, who will premiere their latest work *Verba Estirpe*, Iria Piñeiro and Mónica de Nut with their collaboration *Kennebec*, Fran Amil with *Popsía*, the multimedia show *Alta Montaña* by Iván Torres, and on Sunday, the festival will close with the “Literature Set to Music” performance by Fundación Legar.

As every year since the first edition, early on Saturday morning, there will be a bird-watching walk guided by ornithologist Xavier Vázquez Pumariño, focusing on the birds featured in Novoneyra’s poems. This edition also introduces a new route called “Architecture of Parada” interpreted by architect Xosé Allegue.

The Novoneyra Foundation recently received a special mention in the report “Keys and Impacts of Culture in Rural Areas: The Value of Intangibles” by the Ministry of Culture, where this festival is highlighted as a central element of its program. The report, which measures the impact of culture in rural areas, highlights the Uxío Novoneyra Foundation and the Agrocuir Festival among projects from across Spain for their social, economic, and demographic impact in the lands of Courel and the Ulloa region.

One of the new features of this IX edition is a shuttle service that will connect the village of Seoane with the hamlet of Parada to facilitate and ensure mobility to the festival activities.

The ninth edition of the Eidos program is supported by the Area of Culture of the Provincial Council of Lugo, the General Secretariat of Language of the Xunta de Galicia, and the “Afinidades Electivas” program of the Ministry of Culture. As in previous editions, the Festival dos Eidos is sponsored by Alhambra and Deleite, the wineries Martín Codax and Lodeiros, and the agri-food brands A Carqueixa, O Sabor dos Ancares, Torre de Nuñez, and Queixos Castelo.

We announce the names of the artists participating in the 3rd “Ámeto Mítico” Literary Residencies

From the Uxío Novoneyra Foundation we have just announced the participants for the third edition of residencies “Ámeto Mítico” in the Camino de Santiago for this September 2022, a project integrated within the programming “O Teu Xacobeo” of the Xunta de Galicia.

Alessandro Burbank, Tamara Andrés, Ojo Taiye, Nuria Vil, Carlos Negro, Verónica Aranda and Mohamed Abdullah are the poets chosen to participate in the international itinerant residencies that will take place between 16 September and 3 October.

For 15 days the participants will go on pilgrimage between Villafranca del Bierzo and Santiago de Compostela to develop Jacobean-themed compositions that they will later share with students from educational centres. At the end of the residency, FUN will compile the texts created in its own edition.

This experience aims to dialogue with the literary traditions that, like Provençal poetry and Sufi mysticism, reached our lands through the Camino. The aim of these international writing residencies is to recover the ámeto mítico that Novoneyra dreamed of in his book of the same title, to revive the Jacobean theme in contemporary poetry and to invite young people to recognise the importance of the First European Cultural Itinerary.

Congratulations to those selected.

The travelling residencies “Ámeto Mítico” are part of the cultural programme of the Xunta de Galicia “O Teu Xacobeo”. This third edition is part of the BE(p)ART – GROW WITH ARTS project, an initiative funded by the European Commission’s Creative Europe programme. The aim of BE(p)ART is to bring literary creation closer to the younger population and to create new audiences through a participatory and networking methodology.

Open call for the 2nd “Ámeto Mítico” poetry residencies on the Camino de Santiago

After several delays  to which we have been forced by the situation derived from the COVID-19, we finally update the dates and open the deadline for submission of applications.

Our residency project “Ámeto Mítico” aims to update the legacy of Galician-Portuguese troubadour poetry characterised by the influence of Provençal lyric poetry and other influences that, like Sufi poetry, reached the lands of Galicia along the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela.

We want to reactivate this legacy and accompany poets interested in the experience of the pilgrimage with the aim of disseminating the Camino de Santiago as a mythical space on which to continue writing poetry.

Taking as inspiration the routes of the book Arrodeos e Desvíos do Camiño de Santiago, the latest collection of poems by Uxío Novoneyra -also a renowned moderniser of troubadour poetry- we propose eight (8) residencies of writing and poetic pilgrimage along the Jacobean route to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.

This second edition is one of the activities scheduled under the cultural programme  «O teu Xacobeo» developed by Xunta de Galicia. It is also part of the European project «BE(P)ART Grow With Arts», funded by the Creative Europe programe of the European Comission, which aspires to bring young people and artists and their works closer together.

When?

The residencies will take place between September 16th and September 30th of 2021 according to the following schedule:

  • 2021/09/16: Arrival of the poets at Lavacolla airport/train station in Santiago de Compostela and transfer to O Cebreiro.
  • 2021/09/17 – 2021/09/21: Pilgrimage along the French Way between O Cebreiro and Santiago de Compostela.
  • 2021/09/22 – 2021/09/29: Poetry readings and workshops in 6 schools in municipalities along the French Way and in the Uxío Novoneyra Foundation.
  • 2021/09/30: Return from Santiago de Compostela.

FUN will pay for the hospitality expenses: transport, accommodation and meals for the poets during the residency period.

Call for applications now open

Poets interested in participating should send an email to ametomitico@uxionovoneyra.com before July the 15th:

  • Letter of interest.
  • Updated CV.
  • E-mail address.
  • Photocopy of identity card/passport.
  • A minimum sample of their published poetry (100 lines).

A commission formed by 3 patrons and/or collaborators of the Uxío Novoneyra Foundation will decide the names of the chosen poets in July.

The list of selected poets will be published on the Foundation’s social networks and on this website. The Foundation will contact the selected poets to inform them of their participation in the II residencies «Ámeto Mítico» on the Camino de Santiago.
